Hyderabad floods: Himayat Sagar gates opened after heavy rains; Musi River overflows, streets submerged | Hyderabad News

NEW DELHI: Heavy rainfall in Hyderabad led officials to open the gates of the Himayat Sagar reservoir on Friday night, causing the Musi River to overflow near Chaderghat Bridge. As a safety measure, the road near the bridge was closed, resulting in severe traffic congestion. The overflowing river also caused flooding in nearby houses and low-lying areas along the Musi. Parts of Mithila Nagar Colony in Meerpet Municipal Corporation, Rangareddy District, experienced significant waterlogging on Friday. Earlier, Telangana chief minister A. Revanth Reddy had instructed the state administration to remain on high alert, following forecasts of heavy rain over the next two days. According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), officials across all departments were directed to monitor flood-prone areas closely and take proactive measures to ensure public safety. District collectors were asked to assess flooding risks and relocate residents from vulnerable areas to relief camps if necessary. Authorities were also ordered to stop traffic on waterlogged roads and ensure the safety of causeways. The Electricity Department has been tasked with maintaining uninterrupted power supply and removing hanging wires to prevent accidents. Educational institutions have been advised to remain vigilant during the Dussehra holidays, and citizens have been urged to avoid travelling outdoors during heavy rain. In Hyderabad, teams from GHMC, HYDRAA, NDRF, and SDRF have been placed on standby to respond to emergencies.
