For all the anticipation around Tesla’s entry into India, its approach has remained measured, arguably even cautious. In a market that is warming up to electric mobility but continues to grapple with infrastructure gaps and cost sensitivities, that restraint may not necessarily be a drawback. The introduction of the Tesla Model Y L signals a more considered move — one that reflects a clearer understanding of local demand.
A key trend in the premium segment today is the growing importance of space, and more specifically, usable space. The Model Y L addresses this with a three-row, six-seat configuration, moving beyond the conventional five-seat layout that has defined Tesla’s offerings globally. The inclusion of second-row captain seats is particularly significant, as it aligns with buyer preferences in this price bracket — prioritising comfort and ease of access over maximum seating capacity. These seats come equipped with ventilation, heating, powered armrests and one-touch folding, while the third row — often an afterthought in many SUVs — offers power recline, one-touch folding and its own vented climate control. The result is a layout that feels intentionally designed for regular use across all three rows.
