The Mercedes-AMG E53 Hybrid 4MATIC+ is the first electrified AMG sedan in the E-Class family to arrive in India. More significantly, it strengthens Mercedes-Benz India’s expanding plug-in hybrid portfolio while giving buyers another compelling option in the luxury performance segment.
Under the bonnet sits a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder petrol engine that develops 449 hp, paired with a 120 kW electric motor integrated into the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT nine-speed transmission. Together, the two power sources produce a combined 585 hp and 750 Nm of torque. Engage the RACE START function and output climbs briefly to 612 hp.

The numbers are every bit as impressive as you would expect. The AMG E53 Hybrid accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds before reaching an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. Opt for the AMG Driver’s Package and that limiter is raised to 280 km/h.
But what makes the E53 Hybrid’s powertrain particularly intriguing is that the electrification isn’t there simply to inflate the performance figures. Sitting beneath the boot floor is a 400-volt battery pack with a gross capacity of 28.6 kWh, of which 21.2 kWh is available for everyday driving.
Mercedes-Benz claims an electric-only range of more than 100 km on the WLTP cycle, meaning many owners could complete their daily commute without ever waking the petrol engine. The car can also travel at speeds of up to 140 km/h in pure electric mode.

An 11 kW onboard AC charger handles charging, while regenerative braking helps replenish the battery during driving. Interestingly, AMG has also reserved a portion of the battery’s capacity specifically for performance driving. This ensures there is always enough electrical energy in reserve to deliver the instant boost required when maximum acceleration is called for.
The engineering focus extends well beyond the powertrain. Standard equipment includes AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension and the fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system, which continuously distributes torque between the front and rear axles depending on available grip.
Another standout feature is active rear-axle steering. At lower speeds, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels, effectively shortening the turning circle and making the sedan feel more agile. Above 90 km/h, they turn in the same direction as the front wheels to improve stability during high-speed cornering and rapid lane changes.

Drivers can tailor the E53 Hybrid’s character through a range of drive modes, including Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Slippery and Individual. Dedicated electric and battery hold modes offer greater control over how the available battery charge is deployed, allowing drivers to prioritise efficiency or keep electrical energy in reserve for later. Cars equipped with the AMG DYNAMIC PLUS Package also receive an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential, dynamic engine mounts, a high-performance composite braking system and the RACE START function.
Visually, the AMG E53 Hybrid strikes a nice balance between elegance and aggression. The illuminated AMG grille, wider front fenders, larger air intakes, quad circular exhaust tips and subtle “Turbo Hybrid” badging give it a purposeful stance without making it look over styled. Twenty-inch AMG alloy wheels, the AMG Night Package II and DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps come as standard.
The cabin follows a similar approach. AMG sports seats upholstered in ARTICO man-made leather and MICROCUT microfibre feature red contrast stitching, while the latest MBUX infotainment system includes AMG-specific displays, TRACK PACE functionality and dedicated hybrid information screens. The Burmester 4D surround sound system with 17 speakers, four exciters, 730 watts of output and Dolby Atmos support rounds off an interior that feels every bit as premium as you would expect in this segment.
