IMD has issued an orange alert for Mumbai and its suburbs, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall

NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in Mumbai and its suburbs on Saturday, with an orange alert already in place.In its 8 am forecast, valid for the next 24 hours, the IMD said the city will experience a “cloudy sky with heavy rain”, and very heavy showers at isolated locations. The department had earlier issued a three-day orange alert for the metropolis, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places.Residents woke up to overcast skies on Saturday, with several areas receiving light to moderate showers.According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), a high tide of 3.48 metres is expected in the Arabian Sea at 2.25 pm, followed by a low tide of 1.06 metres at 8.17 pm.

In the past 24 hours ending at 8 am, the island city recorded 30.07 mm of rainfall, while the eastern and western suburbs received 26.12 mm and 9.99 mm respectively, civic officials said.Traffic movement across city roads remains normal, though local train services are running with some delays.
