NEW DELHI: Sugauli is one of Bihar’s 243 Assembly constituencies and is an unreserved seat located in Purvi Champaran district. The constituency falls under the Paschim Champaran Lok Sabha segment.
In the 2025 Assembly elections, Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has fielded Rajesh Kumar, who faces a contest against Jan Suraaj’s Ajay Kumar Jha.

During the 2024 general elections, the Paschim Champaran parliamentary seat was won by BJP’s Sanjay Jaiswal, who defeated Congress candidate Madan Mohan Tiwari.

In the 2020 Assembly elections, RJD’s Er Shashi Bhushan Singh captured Sugauli, defeating VIP’s Ramchandra Sahni by a narrow margin of 3,447 votes. Five years earlier, in 2015, Sahni had contested on a BJP ticket and won the seat with 62,384 votes (40.12%), beating RJD’s Om Prakash Choudhary, who polled 54,628 votes (35.13%).

Over the past two decades, Sugauli has witnessed close contests and shifting party loyalties, reflecting the dynamic and competitive nature of Champaran’s political landscape.
